Tourist attraction launches Mackenzie mates rates
February 16, 2010

Mt Cook Mackenzie residents can now enjoy year-round mates rates at one of the South Island’s leading tourist attractions.

Alpine Springs, located on the shores of Lake Tekapo, has launched a new Mackenzie Residents Pass which gives residents unlimited access to its outdoor hot pools at a special discounted rate.

Last year the discount was limited to Tekapo residents but Alpine Springs director Karl Burtscher has now extended the invitation to the whole region.

“We’ve had so much support from our locals since we opened two years ago that we wanted to find a way of saying thank you.  We figured that being able to come and have a soak in our outdoor hot pools overlooking Lake Tekapo and the Southern Alps was a good way as any!

“The pass will be fantastic value for the locals who come regularly and it will be particularly great for families who spend a lot of time here.  People will only need to come a few times during the year to make savings,” he says.

The pass costs individuals $149 for the year (entry to the hot pools usually costs $16 per visit per adult) and families $499 (usually $49 for two adults and up to three children).  Terms and conditions apply.

More about Alpine Springs

Alpine Springs has three hot pools shaped in the configuration of the local glacier lakes, Pukaki, Ohau and Tekapo.  The pools are fed by underground spring water and are nestled amongst New Zealand natives typical of the local alpine area, and terraced to provide majestic views of the surrounding Southern Alps and Lake Tekapo.  Pathways from changing rooms to bathing areas are heated for maximum guest comfort.

The boutique day spa is a peaceful haven within the complex which has views over the pools and out to Lake Tekapo.  It encompasses four treatment rooms and offers a full range of treatments including massage, hot rock massage, reflexology, facials, body wraps, manicures, and pedicures.  The main complex also features a large sauna, steam room and plunge pool.

The international size outdoor rink is open year-round.  In summer it operates as an inline/roller rink and from April to late September it is converted to an ice rink for ice skating, ice hockey and curling.

During the winter months Alpine Springs has a state-of-the-art snow slope dedicated entirely to snow tubing and playing in the snow.
