ARROWTOWN JUNIOR GOLFERS TEE OFF WITH SKYCITY
December 15, 2009
Arrowtown junior golfers can tee off in style thanks to new golf clubs bought with a $1500 SKYCITY Queenstown Casino Community Trust grant.
Arrowtown Golf Club has over 50 junior members- some as young as six years old and the club is looking forward to fostering and developing the talent of their younger members.
Georgia Mahoney is confident the new equipment will bring with it a boost in interest and membership from younger players.
“The donation by SKYCITY Queenstown Casino Community Trust has meant that we are able to provide our junior golfers with acceptable equipment- equipment that will help them develop the right playing technique and start them off in the right direction”
“We are sure there are budding golfers who will want to make the most of the opportunities available for them now and we look forward to seeing some new faces.”
Executive Manager of SKYCITY Queenstown, Michelle Baillie said the Trust was delighted to offer opportunities to Wakatipu young people.
“We are very pleased to support the Arrowtown Golf club and applaud its efforts to get children involved and interested in sport. Golf is a fantastic way to enjoy the outdoors in this region and we’re sure there will be many who will be helped to enjoy the sport through the availability of quality equipment,” she says.
A proud member of the Queenstown community, SKYCITY Queenstown Casino Community Trust was established seven years ago and since then has donated over $800,000 to over 200 community organisations.
To encourage junior players, Arrowtown Golf Club is planning to host a tournament for junior golfers in March 2010.
Funding by SKYCITY Queenstown Casino Community Trust will continue each year with applications sought every June. For more information visit the community website section on www.skycityqueenstown.co.nz.
